What is the INS File Generator?
The INS File Generator is a powerful tool designed to simplify the process of converting a CSV file into an INS (Cakewalk Instrument Definition) file. It is specifically tailored for Yamaha PSR-SX and Genos keyboards, eliminating the need to manually input MSB, LSB, and PC bank lists. Simply download the voice list from Yamaha's official website, save it as a CSV file, and let the tool handle the rest.
While the INS File Generator is optimized for modern PSR-SX and Genos2 keyboards, it may also be compatible with other Yamaha models such as Tyros 5, Tyros 4, Tyros 3, Tyros 2, Tyros 1, and older PSR and PSR-S keyboards. However, please note that XLSX voice lists are only officially provided for PSR-SX and Genos2 models.
This tool is exclusively designed for Yamaha keyboards, including PSR, DGX, CVP, Tyros, and Genos series. It is not intended for use with keyboards from other brands or models.

How Does It Work?
Follow these simple steps to generate your INS file:
- Download the Data List: Obtain the Data List for your Yamaha keyboard from Yamaha's official website. The data list is typically available in PDF format.
- Prepare the Excel File: Copy and paste the VoiceList tab into a new Excel document. Ensure you include the headers: Voice Name, MSB, LSB, PC, and Type, as shown in the image below.
- Save as CSV: Save the Excel file as a CSV file.
- Load the CSV File: Open the INS File Generator, click the "Load" button, and select your CSV file. Enter your keyboard model (e.g., Genos2) in the "Instrument Model" field.
- Generate the INS File: Click the "Generate INS" button to create your INS file. You can now use this file in Cakewalk by Bandlab.
