| There
are many sites on the internet where you can download
files that can be used with the PSR keyboards. Our Links section will point
you to some of the best. In the downloads provided at
this site, we initially focused on files specifically designed
for or tuned-to the PSR-2000. Over the years, we have expanded
considerably and now you will find files you can use on any
of the mid-range Yamaha arranger keyboards (PSR730 to PSR3000)
or on the high-end arranger keyboards (PSR8000 to Tyros2). |

Tutorial
on the PSR File System
If
you are going to do any work with floppy disk files,
you need to understand how the PSR file system works.
If you are new to downloading, check out the lessons
that explains
how
to download
files.
Most of these files are compressed. If you do not know
how to "unzip" a file, be sure to read our
WinZip
lesson
. You'll find links there to point you to where
you can get the latest WinZip program.

Navigation
This part of the PSR Tutorial includes seven major
sections, each of which may contain one or more subsections. The
major "Styles" sections are shown in the 7 tabs
at the top of each page. Use these tabs to jump immediately to the
section you are interested in. A brief description of each major
section is provided below. You will also find a "navigator"
shown in the far left column. It shows the major subsections and
provided another "quick link" to help you find what you
are looking for. The navigator on this, the Style Home Page, takes
you to the major sections under Styles. Anywhere in this section,
click on the floppy disk picture in the upper left-hand corner to
return to this home page. For a summary page of everything
in this section, go to the Styles Contents
Summary page.
Yamaha
Style Files
This section is
organized by Yamaha arranger keyboard model in a chronological order
starting with the PSR730 introduced in 1997 and extending to the
current top-of-the-line model, the Tyros2, introduced in 2005, and
the new PSR-S500 introduced in 2007. For each of these models you
will find four available "pages". The primary page is,
of course, for styles, both the original styles that came with that
model as well as other styles sets that have been specifically "tuned"
for use on that model. There are also pages showing the original
Yamaha press release, the key features of the keyboard and the keyboard
specifications. Buttons at the top of the pages in this "Yamaha"
section allow you to jump to the subsection of your choice.
Yamaha
Style Lists
Once you start
"collecting" styles, you may be interested in understanding
all the styles that are available. In this section, you will find
lists of all the internal, preset, styles in the current family
of Yamah keyboards.
Styles
from Other Keyboards
Surprise! You do
not have to limit yourself to only those styles created by Yamaha.
Styles from other arranger keyboards, although not directly usable
on a Yamaha keyboard, can be converted for use on PSR keyboards.
We have done that for hundreds of styles from Technics, Roland,
Ketron, and Korg keyboards. These styles have been adjusted for
use on the PSR-2000 and should sound fine on the PSR-2100 as well.
They sound best, of course, on the keyboards they were originally
designed for. But, after a bit of style "tweaking," they
can be made to be quite acceptable on the PSR-2x00. In addition,
one-touch settings have been added to the PSR-2K versions.
Gig
Disks
Many users find
traditional style names uninformative. They prefer styles named
with a suitable song they recognize. That is the essence of the
"Gig Disks" put together by Gary Diamond and others. These
have been very popular. Just load the "song" you want
and the keyboard is instantly set up to sound just great for that
song.
Style
Collections
Looking for Christmas
or Arabic styles? You'll find them in this section. You'll also
find some SVP World styles here, various style collections compiled
by Charley and from "Seeker" as well as Christmas Styles
and Christmas Songs.
Music
Finder Files
One of the really nice features
of the PSR-2000/2100 is the Music Finder system. Using the
Music Finder, you simply locate a song you want to play, select
it, and the style and tempo are set immediately. Just touch
the keyboard and off you go. The Music Finder system gets
its information from a Music Finder Database (mfd) file. You
can load your own Music Finder database. This section provides
a variety of different Music Finder databases including a large
number of databases that are specific to an individual fake book.
Other Files
Registration
Files
Want to set up your
PSR with your very own favorite set of instruments and/or styles
with just the press of a single button? That's what registration
files are for and you will find several useful files on this page.
These registration files are machine specific. Registration files
here are for the PSR-2000 and PSR-2100 keyboards.
Voice
Files
You know you can add styles
to your PSR or modify the styles that are already there. Well,
you can also modify the preset voices that are supplied with the
machine. Scott Langholff has generously provided us with his
collection of 100 voices arranged in "Category Presets." This
is another great resource that will help you enjoy your keyboard
even more!
Multi
Pad Files
Songs can be greatly
enhanced by the Multipads supplied with your PSR. Here, too,
you can load in additional multipads and thus expand the options
available. You find many additional
multi pad files provided by Leo Dunne and Vince Lutz on the Multi
Pad file pages.
MIDI
Files
You will find a number
of midi files available on the Factory Disk page under Yamaha styles.
However, there are many more MIDI files available in our PSR
Performer's section. Most
of these files were recorded on the PSR-2000, although you will
also find Performers using the PSR-730, PSR-540, PSR-9000, and Tyros.
The great variety of performers will not only show you what your
keyboard can do, they will give you lots of ides you can use in
your performances.
