My Christmas Sing-Along Collection is a set of 61 Christmas favorites (see list), complete with sheet music, song (midi) files and lyrics. The files are designed for someone who plays busker style (chords in the left hand, melody in the right).

To load the repertoire into your Tyros4, download the Smith Christmas.zip file, unzip the files to a folder called "Smith Christmas" on the hard drive, copy to a USB drive and then to your Tyros drive. Salient information on each type of file is provided below.

Registration Files

Registrations are designed to be used with the Sequencer enabled. Go to Function > Registration Sequence > Sequence Enable > On. Set the Regist+ pedal to whichever one you want to use (if you don't have, or don't want to use, a pedal, you can use the tab buttons on the screen). The Regist- pedal is not used by the registrations; setting Sequence End to Next Bank will allow you to move from one song to the next. You can tell when to hit the pedal by the black triangles in the sheet music.

The registrations will not change the EQ, mic, line out or slider settings. But Fingering and split point will be changed (to Multi-finger and F#2). If you don't want that to happen, lock these parameters (using Function > Utility > Config1 > Parameter Lock) before you load any registrations.

PDF Music Files

PDF Music has been designed for use on a tablet. There are minimal margins, large fonts and no repeats – so no more trying to decipher in real time whether to play the big notes or the small notes. You can print the PDF files, but you'll have lots of pages.

Lyrics

Lyrics are designed for the Proportional 20 font. Press Lyrics/Text then the [3] button three times. You need do this only once per power on. To display the lyrics on an external screen, set Function > Screen Out > Screen Content to Lyrics/Text.

SongBook

SongBook is the app I use to display the music on an iPad. All the required midi control files are included in the zip file. To use Songbook:

  1. Transfer the PDF files to Songbook using iTunes
  2. See the included Excel file for the MSB/LSB/PG codes for each song in SongBook
  3. To enable the registrations to automatically change the page, go to Settings > MIDI foot pedal and turn it on. Then set: if controller 4 changes to 1 execute Jump to next page; if controller 4 changes to 2 execute Jump to previous page; if controller 4 changes to 4 execute Jump to next page.
