Musical Background. (March 2006) Hi, I'm Chuck Hunt. I was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1949 and raised in one of the suburbs of Cleveland. I started piano lessons when I was seven and took them for six years. Then, my father purchased a Hammond Organ. I continued taking piano and organ lessons for another six years. I then went off to College, but played very little through my college years.
I was married in 1971 and still played very little music until 1975 when I moved to Zanesville, Ohio. At that time, I started working for a local music store, which sold a whole line of musical instruments. I started playing the organ for some parties and local restaurants. In 1980, I joined a five-piece dance band that played Big Band music and many of the hits from the 50's, 60's and 70's.
I left the band in 1995 and started playing solo gigs in the area with a Yamaha HX-1 organ I purchased in 1987. In the late 90's, I purchased a Yamaha PSR-5700. Then, in 2004, I purchased a Yamaha 9000PRO. At the music store, I had a new Tyros and a 9000PRO sitting side by side and I chose the 9000PRO over the Tyros. I felt the 9000PRO was a superior machine. Why? I felt the Mega voices on the Tyros were not very user friendly and the 9000PRO had 76 keys. I could play it more like a piano when I wanted and I still pretty much had all the same styles. Plus, I liked the little lights that I could plug in and see my music with.
I am no longer working at a music store but I still play on the average of about six or seven times a month for various functions. I do have a steady one-night-a-week gig at a local restaurant that is a pleasure for me to play at. I really enjoy playing the keyboard. About three years ago, I built a garage behind my home. I put a vaulted roof on it and put a music studio in the upstairs of the garage where I also give keyboard lessons. I now have five keyboards in my studio (the Yamaha HX-1, 9000PRO, PSR-2100, and DGX-500) and in my home I have an older Hammond console organ. I started playing music when I was 7. I just turned 57 so that makes 50 years of playing!
I hope you enjoy my music.
Update: in January, 2009, Chuck moved up to a Tyros2. He has also recently (2011) provided us with his Tyros2 Gig Disk, which you can download on his Gig Disk Page.
