PSR Tutorial Report: Oct-Nov 2014
I have spent a lot of time working on styles in the past several months so there were no new features added to the site in the Lessons section, nor were there any new Utilities. But we did substantially increase the number of available styles online as well as introduce a new Styles Collection. And, as usual, the PSR Performers continued sending us new songs. Details provided below....
There were 114 songs added in October and November by 15 PSR Performers and 4 contributing artists. Each year, I post a "Christmas Jukebox" with holiday tunes provided by PSR Tutorial forum members and PSR Performers. This year's jukebox was loaded late in November and will be up throughout the holiday season. November ended with 31 songs in the jukebox. I expect we will add many more as we move thorugh December. If you want to contribute a song, you can e-mail the MP3 to me or post it in the PSR Tutorial Forum and I will get it. If you send me a song, be sure to let me know what keyboard you used to create it. This is a great way to share and enjoy the great music of this season.
Besides the Christmas songs, PSR Performers added 83 other songs. The performer's and their songs are listed below. Note that PSR Performer Christmas songs are available in the 2014 Christmas Jukebox as well as on the PSR Performer page.

New Onacimus Style Conversions
Onacimus Internet Collection. Onacimus Sayaham collected various different styles (not preset styles) from the internet and converted them for use on the PSR-S910. In some styles some sections are missing, but all the styles are fantastic. Some styles in this group are YEP styles. This collection was added in October and a few updates and additions were added in November. There are 222 styles in this internet collection. These were designed for the PSR-S910, but will also work on the S950 as well as the Tyros3/4/5 models.
In March of this year, Onacimus provided us with a "Standard Styles Collection" for the PSR-S910. This collection includes conversion of preset styles from a number of earlier Yamaha keyboards: the CVP-209/210, PSR-9000/9000Pro, PSR-740 (Floppy), PSR-2000/2100/1500, and PSR-S550. There are 798 styles in this collection, all in the SFF2 format used in the S910.
In October and November, Onacimus worked on creating a "SuperMegaPlus" style collection for the PSR-S910. This collection includes styles from the TYROS-5, TYROS-4, PSR-S950, PSR-S750, PSR-S650 and CVP609, all converted for use on the PSR-S910. These conversion will, of course, also play well on the S950 and the Tyros3/4/5 models. There are 412 styles in this collection including a number of the "Audio" styles from the Tyros5 and the PSR-S950. These "audio" styles can not be copied for use on other keyboards since they include the unique audio drums that are only available on those two models. However, it is possible to create a new style and copy all the parts of an audio style, except the rhythm sections, to the new style. That style can be saved and copied. Of course, it needs to have new regular drum rhythms added to the style to replace the missing audio drums. This is a time consuming and complicated task, but it was completed in November and the converted styles are in this SuperMegaPlus collection.
You can find all of these new Onacimus style conversion on the Styles > Collections > Onacimus page. They also can be found on the Styles > Yamaha > PSR-S910 page.
Conversions from Other Keyboards
In October, one of the PSR Tutorial Forum members (Mike) provided a big boost to our style archives by sending in a batch of styles converted from other keyboards for use with the Yamaha PSR9000. These styles, of course, also work on later Yamaha arranger keyboards. All of these styles have 4 variations, but none have OTS voices. None of the styles are exact duplicates of styles provided in other sections on the web site. Since these are conversions, they may require additional tuning for your particular keyboard and, of course, you would have to add your own one touch setting voices if you want them included with the style. If you are looking for styles that are new and different from what you have come to expect from the traditional Yamaha styles, and if you have learned how to adjust styles, you will undoubtedly find many great new additions to your library in this collection. This collection, which includes over 2,800 styles, is found on the Styles > Othr Kbds > Mixed page.
Style Collection No. 8
Several years ago, Style Collection No. 4 provided preset styles from all the Yamaha arranger keyboards over a 10 year period. That collection is now replaced by the new Style Collection No. 8, which extends the earlier collection by adding 5 additional keyboards. The new collection gives you all the original Yamaha styles from 20 keyboards - 6,780 styles! Although new keyboards often list styles from earlier keyboards, but, while the name may be the same, the styles are not. In most cases, the newer styles include new voices both in the accompaniment voices and the OTS voices. These original styles are provided organized by keyboard as well as by Genre. That is, you can find a folder that has all the styles from, for example, the Tyros4, in subfolders by category.
It also provides all of these styles organized by genre. In this organization, a folder labeled "Ballad" would have subfolders organized by ballad style, e.g. "12-8 Ballad". Within that folder you would find 14 individual style from 14 different keyboards, all called "12-8Ballad". The individual styles include the originating keyboard in the name so you can identify where the style came from. Some of these styles appeared on all 20 keyboards. But many styles only appeared on a few of the Yamaha keyboards. There are over 1,000 unique styles in this collection, far more than are available on any Yamaha keyboard.
In addition to the Yamaha preset styles, this collection also includes the style conversions done by Onacimus Sayaham for the PSR3000 and for the PSR-S910. There are over 3,600 styles in this conversion section. If you load an original style from a keyboard newer than your own, you may find some OTS voices do not display. This means the style is referencing a voice that is not on your keyboard. You can, of course, simply save one of your own preset voices in the OTS and re save the style. In the Onacimus conversions, you are more likely to be able to load any of those styles and not have to make any additional adjustments.
This is one of the finest collections we have and I recommend it highly to any Yamaha owner.
