PSR Tutorial Report - August-September 2013
With October starting tomorrow, summer is clearly over and we can look forward to new things this fall. In particular, the Tyros4 replacement is slated to be introduced in Spain in October. That will surely dominate the news for several months. I'll look forward to adding a new page in the Styles | Yamaha section to cover the new keyboard. I'm sure you will get the latest news by keeping up with events in the PSR Tutorial forum.
As usual, the past two months have seen plenty of new songs from the PSR Performers. We have also had an expansion in the available styles online and an update to one of Michael's Utility programs. Details provided below.
Gary Diamond's "Gig Disks" have been one of the most popular style downloads over the years. Gary has been performing with his PSR-3000 for many years but has recently moved up to the new PSR-S950. Fortunatley, most of his PSR-3000 gig disks were just fine on the new S-950. But, of course, with a new keyboard, there is always some tweaking, particularly with the new voices that are now available. Rather than trying to recreate all of those individual gig disks, Gary simply provided access to the styles (and registrations) from his USB stick. You will find over 1,000 new styles for your PSR-S950 in this collection.
Patrick Hannequin also provided over 300 new styles with two new batches of Roland styles converted for use with the S910 (and above) Yamaha keyboards. You will find 164 BK 7m styles that were not on the BK5 and 147 BK5 styles that were not on the BK7.
Michael Bedesem updated PadMaker to version 2.0.8. PadMaker is a tool for creating a Multipad based upon the patterns from one or more styles. The latest update incorporates some changes to the Chord Follow behavior and a number of maintenance fixes.
Many performers have been busy through August and September. 145 songs (696 MB) were added to our online archive. The total includes songs from 23 performers including two new performers. Details are provided below:

Performer Maintenance Activities
Over the years, 99 folks have contributed songs to the PSR Performers section and new performers are added on a regular basis. Performers can add songs at any time, but there is no requirement to do so. So far, in 2013, we have added 520 songs; in 2012, 771 songs added to the site. The PSR Performer home page shows 60 players who have added songs in the past couple of years.
If no songs are added over a two-year period, the performer's page is moved to an "archive" section. Periodically, I review the Performers Section and move pages from the Current to the Archive section. In August, 10 performers were moved to the Performer Archives -- Alan Paganelli, Alex Green, Bob Boyd, Cynthia Cooke, Hermann Schunk, James Gracey, Pauline, Richard Herzog, Stephen Molnar, and Vincent Andreone. You can still access their pages from the PSR Performer home page as well as from any page in the archive section. All the performer's midi songs are there and a good sample of MP3 songs, but there are no jukeboxes in the archive section. If one of the archived performers starts sending in new songs, their page can be moved back into the Current Performers section.
Performer songs are available online for auditioning and/or downloading. But songs are not stored online forever. Right now, there are just over 2,200 MP3s online. Over 1,500 MP3s, however, have been "retired" and are no longer available via the Performer's page or the MP3 song index. (Earlier songs are available via the various annual song collections.) Performer pages are provided to give visitors a sample of songs performed by a variety of players using one of the many available Yamaha arranger keyboards. There is a limit to the number of songs any one performer can have online at any one time, so, over time, songs are moved to the "retired" section and are no longer available online. In August, I retired 99 MP3 files from online storage by removing songs over the online limit for several Performers: Del Kay, Ernie Mulder, John Phillips, Lynn Rae, Mark Styles, Torben Goldin Craig, Peter Gasser. Some of these songs are available in the 2012 Song collection and others will be available in a 2013 Song Collection. However, they are no longer listed on the Performer's page or in the overall MP3 song index.
