This DVD, the first one produced by the PSR Tutorial, to a large extent mirrors the "Songs" section of the PSR Tutorial web site and all the material in that section is available on this DVD.
The "Songs" section of the PSR Tutorial has over 5,000 midi files and nearly 900 MP3 files that you can listen to and and/or download. All of those songs are available on this DVD! Over 4.3 GB of files, that's the equivalent of six CD-ROM data discs! All of this material for only $29! Note that this is not a Video DVD, although it does include a number of video files. This is a data DVD. It's just like adding a new 4GB+ drive to your system. You can not write to this dvd, but you can access all the files on the dvd and/or copy them from the dvd to your hard drive or USB drive. You will need, of course, a computer that has a drive that can read a DVD disc.
Web Interface. Like the "Songs" section on the web site, the interace
to this
material on this DVD is via your web browser. Yes, there is the equivalent
of an entire web site on the DVD and you launch it all by simply double-clicking
on the "index.html" file in the main root directory.
Six Sections. There are six major section on the DVD, similar to the major sections in the "Songs" section of the web site: Performers, MIDI Files, MP3 Files, Forum09, Yamaha, and Christmas. Although similar to the web site, there are some differences. The Forum09 section includes only the MP3s from forum members in 2009, who were not also PSR Performers. The entries there from the PSR Performers have been consolidated in their pages within the Performer section. The information about the original forum posting and initial comments are also provided on their PSR Performer page.
While the MP3s provided by forum members are restricted to those offered in 2009, the MP3s from PSR Tutorial members extend back to previous years. All of the MP3s from PSR Tutorial Performers and from Forum members are playable through jukeboxes found on the individual pages.
All Songs Indexed. There are nearly 900 MP3s on this DVD located in individual Jukeboxes found in the Performer, Forum09, and Christmas sections. However, all of these are also accessible in an alphabetical index found in the "MP3 Files" section. In that index, any of the files can be auditioned and/or copied to some location on your computer drives.
Similarly, while the midi files from the PSR Performers are listed on their individual performer pages, the "MIDI Files" section has an alphabetical index to all the available songs. That index shows the song title, performer, keyboard, song tempo, and, if know, the style used. Unlike the web site, however, the DVD does not contain zipped files -- all the midi files are unzipped and ready to be played or copied for playing on your Yamaha keyboard.
Videos. There are also a number of video files on this dvd. Videos of Chico Brasil and Hammer are found in the PSR Performer section and videos from Ferdy, Kevin (kevyk) and Telmo are in the Forum section.
Summary. Although much of this material is available on the web site, it is not easily obtained if you do not have a high-speed internet connection since MP3 files are usually very big. In addition, many of the forum MP3 files posted on external sites may no longer be available there. And, of course, the actual songs are scattered out over hundreds and hundreds of messages and not easily located.
However, they are easily found on this DVD and all MP3 song volumes have been standardized to a uniform listening level and given a standard naming format. If you enjoy listening to music and seeing and hearing how others perform their songs, this DVD is for you! There are songs from all 57 PSR Performers as well as an additional 70 forum members playing on Yamaha keyboards, particularly some of the newer arranger models released in the last couple of years. Any player can learn a lot from these songs and you certainly will have many, many hours of listening pleasure available to you.
