Nearly 850 MP3 songs (46 hours of music) are available in this first song collection. A web interface provides easy access to all the songs. Includes an alphabetical index to the songs and Christmas Jukeboxes from 2009, 2008, and 2007. ($15)
The full collection includes 1,800 files and requires 3.11 GB of disk space. The collection is not available for download and must be ordered with a USB drive.
This "Songs" USB drive includes 848 MP3 files added to the PSR Tutorial archives in 2009 and earlier years. Over 3.1 GB of files. Since MP3 files are already compressed, zipping this collection does not save any space and so there is no download option available. You must order one of the available USB drives with this collection. This collection will fill up most of a 4 GB drive. However, you could put two years of songs on an 8 GB drive or all 4 years on a 16 GB drive.
Web Interface. Like the "Songs" section on the web site, the interace to this material on this USB is via your web browser. Yes, there is the equivalent of an entire web site on the USB and you launch it all by simply double-clicking on the "index.html" file in the main root directory.
Five Sections. There are five major section on the USB, similar to the major sections in the "Songs" section of the web site: Performers, MP3 Files, Forum09, Yamaha, and Christmas. Although similar to the web site, there are some differences. The Forum09 section includes only the MP3s from forum members in 2009, who were not also PSR Performers. The entries there from the PSR Performers have been consolidated in their pages within the Performer section. The information about the original forum posting and initial comments are also provided on their PSR Performer page.
While the MP3s provided by forum members are restricted to those offered in 2009, some of the MP3s from PSR Tutorial members extend back to previous years. All of the MP3s from PSR Tutorial Performers and from Forum members are playable through jukeboxes found on the individual pages.
All Songs Indexed. The MP3s on this USB are located in individual Jukeboxes found in the Performer, Forum09, and Christmas sections. However, all of these are also accessible in an alphabetical indexes. The Christmas songs are indexed in the Christmas section and the other files are indexed in the "MP3 Files" section.
Midi files from the PSR Performers in 2009 are listed alphabetically on their individual performer pages. That listing shows the song title, performer, keyboard, song tempo, and, if know, the style used. Unlike the web site, however, the USB does not contain zipped files -- all the midi files are unzipped and ready to be played or copied for playing on your Yamaha keyboard.
Summary. Most of this material is no longer available on the PSR Tutorial web site. Since online storage is limited, the available MP3s are from the most recent year or two. However, all of the earlier MP3s can be found in these song collections. I have standardized all of the songs to a uniform listening level and used a standard naming convention for each song. If you enjoy listening to music and seeing and hearing how others perform their songs, this collection (and the others provided here) are for you! There are songs from a wide variety of performers playing on many different Yamaha keyboards. Any player can learn a lot from these songs and you certainly will have many, many hours of listening pleasure available to you.
