If
you have examined any of the fake book pages, you may have noticed
that most books include a link to take you to the table of contents
for that book. The sum total of many of those Tables of Contents
was used to create a master index of all the songs in the 55 of
the fake books listed. Using this master index, I was able
to match song titles with books to create the data that went into
the Master
Music Finder database . In that database, a Music
Finder record for a song, included information in the form of a
two-letter abbreviation for all of the books in which that song
appeared. That allowed users of the MFD to search on a particular
book and find all the Music Finder records for songs in that book.
However,
that list included only songs for which I had Music Finder records
-- about 1/5 of the total songs titles in the Master Song
List. I have now added that Master Song List to this site.
If you click on any of the letters to the right, you will find a
list of all the songs that begin with that letter. Some letters
had so many songs, that I had to split that letter up. For
example, you will find 419 songs that begin with the single letter
"I" such as "I Ain't Down Yet" listed under the "I " button.
The rest of the I songs are under the "I" button. Songs that begin
with a number are found under the "Numbers" button. Note that
in standardizing the song titles, I listed all songs that begin
with "The." with "The" at the beginning of the title rather than
at the end. As a result, there are a LOT of songs that begin
with "The..."
Each
song also shows, of coruse, the Fake Books in which that song appears.
Books are abbreviated, although the abbreviation is longer than
the short 2-letter abbreviations used in the MFD. The list
of all the books and abbreviations are found under the "Books" button.
Although
I tried to be as careful as possible, there were over 18,000 songs
in the cumulative index of those 55 books and, although I own many,
I don't own all the books. I have no doubt that there
will be mistakes here and there. If anyone finds an error,
feel free to e-mail
me
and I will correct the entry.
Printed
List. While these pages may be useful in looking up a particular
song, some visitors may prefer to download all of this information
and just print it out. I have done that by putting the information
(with short abbreviations) into a Microsoft Word document.
The full alphabetical index is 61 pages long with songs listed in
three columns on each page. You can download that Microsoft
Word file in a zipped format if you like by clicking on this link:
MasterSongIndex.ZIP
If
you'd prefer a published book, there is one available that you can
order from Barnes & Noble for $52.25. It indexes 64 fake
books and includes 13,500 songs.:
