Home: I was born in Northampton, England in 1939. After schooling and college, I spent three years in the RAF, before emigrating to New Zealand in 1961, following in the footsteps of several of my family members. My wife of 38 years, Valerie, and I now live in a little town called Waikanae which is about 60 kilometres north of the capital Wellington, on the west coast of the North Island.

After working for two years in the New Zealand public service, I was fortunate enough to get into the computer industry, which was in its very early years in New Zealand, then, after 5 years with Mobil Oil and 23 years with IBM New Zealand, I had the luxury of taking early retirement at the ripe old age of 52.

Musical Background:- Although I have always enjoyed music, particularly organ music, I did not play any musical instrument until my late 40's, when I bought a Hammond Sounder keyboard. From then on, over the next 10 years or so, I had a series of ever more sophisticated spinet organs, until 4 years ago, I purchased my first arranger keyboard, the PSR740. I was so impressed with this, that I immediately sold my current spinet organ, a Technics GN3, to concentrate on this new-found wonder instrument. Then, when the PSR2000 was announced, I just had to have one, and I have never been disappointed with it since. (Update: In February, '05, Hal traded in his 2000 for a PSR3000. - jw)
