Grouping A Style Category in a Registration

You may have noticed that while the styles in the PSR-2100/2000 are grouped by category, it isn't always so obvious where you will find a particular style.  For example, you can find Waltzes in the March & Waltz Category, but there are also some in Ballroom and in Ballad.  Country styles can be found in Pop & Rock, Ballad, and March & Waltz.  But you can pick out your favorite waltzes and save at least 8 of them in a single registration file.  Then, whenever you come across a waltz you want to play, just load your Waltz registration file and you will have Waltz styles to choose from.

While there are some very nice styles built into the PSR,  not every style may be just to your liking.  Of course, you can tune the styles by adjusting the volumes of individual instruments.  This can change dramatically how a style sounds.  You can also supply your own main, layer, and left voices.  All of this can then be saved in a single registration button.  You could also, of course, copy the style to the USER area and make all the changes you want there, including changing the one touch settings.  But if you save this in the USER area, you will be using up quite a bit of the limited amount of memory available for user files.  You are saving, after all, the entire style and all your adjustments to the style.  You don't, however, have to save the entire style; it is built into the PSR.  You can use a registration memory button to load that style, and then make all of your adjustments.  A registration file takes about 11 to 12K of memory to store 8 setups.  The size of a style varies.  Some are as small as 10K; some are over 40K.  But if you take 20K as a typical style, 8 styles would use up 160K of memory -- that's quite a bit more than 12K in a registration file.  You can readily see the advantage of saving adjustments to INTERNAL styles in a registration memory file.

When you are "tuning" a style, if you save a main and/or layer voice that is not already in one of the 4 OTS buttons in a registration memory button for that style, then you can have five voices readily available for that style rather than just the four you get with the OTS.  But you can go even further.  You can use the PSR FREEZE option to provide access to eight different registration voices as well as the four voices in OTS. When you turn on FREEZE, the loaded style does not change. So, you can now pick any other registration file, which will load the main and layer voice, but not change the style.

In setting up each of the category-based registrations below, I tried to use a different main voice in each registration button, so that if you do freeze the style when it is first loaded, you can then switch to any of the eight registrations main voices while that style is playing.  All of these registrations are available in a single zip file .  Alternatively, if you would like to try just one or two, click on the appropriate Title line below to download that individual registration file. These registrations were all originally done on a PSR-2000 but they also work on the newer PSR-2100.
