Step-by-Step Guide for Building and Using PSR 3000 Registrations

by Frank Blecha (aka Seeker)

Introduction

There are many different methods and techniques for building and using registrations. I have watched, read, and learned from other PSR Tutorial forum members for the past 1 1/2 years. The methods I use and present here were per-loined from many other forum members, and then used in a technique that I find to be very simple and easy to use. With registrations, a user can do complicated and almost unlimited modifications for new song setups.

The method I use employs one registration memory button for one song. My reasoning for using this method is the quick setup when using registrations during a gig or performance. Dancers can be impatient and go sit down if there is too much of a gap between songs. An additional benefit of this method is that every registration shows the title of the song at the top of the PSR3000 MAIN screen. Based on this technique, and a better memory than mine, you could do a whole gig without a "song book" (which I will describe later) for setups remembering song titles only. Maybe not a practical solution for everybody, but possible. To effectively use my method, an external song list with song titles and registration file location needs to be created while you build your new registrations.

I have provided a number of sample files that you can use to try out this method. All of the files and folders, of course, had to be given names to make the lessons work. But the names I use are arbitrary names. You need not use these names when creating and building your final registrations files.

Press the "Getting Ready" button above to find these sample files and some preliminary steps you will want to take before tackling the series of step-by-step lessons accessed via the next button.

I would love to hear from anyone who has comments, suggestions, or additional questions. Send your Email to fb.seeker@gmail.

Other Lessons

Joe Waters and other forum members have written some excellent instructions. To give full credit to the "Pioneers" of the PSR Tutorial forum, please do a walk-thru review of the lesson links below.

Registration Memory Contents by Joe Waters. "Settings that are saved with a registration can be filtered by the user via the REGISTRATION MEMORY CONTENTS screen. If something is not saving with a registration, it is possible that that type of setting has not been selected to be saved with the registration memory."
What is Stored in Registration Memory Contents by David Lindsay. Scroll down the page to about the middle and David expands on what is store in a registration.
Saving Registrations: Step-by-Step by David Lindsay. "Registration settings are saved in Banks of 8 to either the internal USER memory, or the FLOPPY DISK drive. For further organization, Folders can be created and named, then multiple Registration Bank 'Files' can be organized within each folder." (With our newer keyboards, Smart Media Cards, USB memory devices, and/or hard disk drives may also support file storage and may be used for Registration.)

Saving Your Favorite Voices by Joe Waters. Joe presents a very unique and "Nifty" way
of creating your special voices and saving them in registrations.
